Laurence
and Gus: a History Of The World in 5 1/2 Sketches |

Laurence Howarth and Gus Brown's preview of their Edinburgh debut does pretty much what it says in the title. Laurence and Gus act out a series of imaginative and well crafted sketches. This resembles what used to be called light entertainment, but intelligent light entertainment for adults, if that is not a contradiction in terms. There is some darker humour around the themes of loneliness and sexual anxiety, and a nice send up of Billy Elliot/Full Monty style sentimentality; but Laurence and Gus are more interested in having a laugh than making a point. A
History of the World is at the Pleasance Courtyard Edinburgh
from 30 July.
