Zouff!
St Stephens, Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Group: Nats Nus Dansa (Spain)

Chris Wilkinson

Zouff! is a big bag of sugar. Five clowns chase each other, juggle and perform minor acrobatics. It means exactly nothing, but it is quite fun.

There is some really excellent clowning in the show, with the performers having a wonderfully open quality on stage. At its best the show achieves some moments of real beauty. A juggling routine with one club, or a sequence in which a ball appears to defy gravity as it rolls around the performers body, are quite mesmerising.

The problem the show has is that too often the energy is allowed to drop. The moments of highly impressive juggling are interspersed with routines that are neither particularly funny nor impressive. However, there is enough in it to keep both children and adults entertained and so it is definitely worth a look.
