Hello Dali
clubWEST @ Edinburgh Theosophical Society, Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Group: Clubwest Productions

Tom Ogg

Dali is a pompous nineteenth century Spaniard with a very admiring sense of himself. Spaniards are not generally thought of as pompous, but this Dali is played in a very posh English accent. The audience chooses gripping stories through shouting out a number from a selection on stage, although I am not convinced that this makes any difference to the order of the production.

The tiny room the production is set in makes the performance very claustrophobic in some ways, and intimate in others. You certainly get the full swing of the emotions that he is experiencing and projecting. A veteran in the audience informed me that this was the best Dali he had ever seen; so the message is that if you like Dali, then this will be good.

Personally, I was not much enamoured by these unrelated yet self-important stories, and was falling asleep before the end of the performance. He won't fail to impress, for this Dali is strong, but if you are not in the mood for unrelated rambles, it will be a disaster.

3 Augusta to 23 August.
