This is painful. There are some halfway interesting ideas about identity and politics here, a few almost-good jokes, and the performances are not unlikeable, but this production just can't shake of the whiff of crapness that haunts it from the start. The sad thing is that were Me and My Monkey to be on TV, with professional production standards, it could be passed off as an unfunny but acceptable sitcom. That says something about standards in TV. Anyway, stripped down to three actors and an amdram set, it is simply not good enough for further consideration. 4 August to 16
