As the football kicks off this week, Sharmini Brookes reflects on the future of South Africa, and the nation’s pride in hosting this year’s World Cup. Meanwhile, take a look back at Geoff Kidder’s latest sports blog, on England winning a cricket world cup recently, though maybe not the one you’d think. And continuing CW Summer theatre coverage, Giulia Merlo enjoys Limehouse Nights, and learns about the history of Mayfair, when only the lower middle classes would countenance living on Charlotte Street. Miriam Gillinson goes further back in time with a peformance of Henry VIII at the Globe. And Matt Trueman is off to the perfectly trashy Electric Hotel, finding it a good development of Rosenberg’s work, but lacking in communality.
