Conservative future?
Conservative future?
This week on CW, as David Cameron forms the first sort-of Conservative government for 13 years, Piers Benn reviews Richard D North’s timely book on the murky meaning of conservatism and its prospects. Mark Carrigan considers the undeniable appeal of Harry Brown, a film starring Michael Caine and seemingly based on Cameronian rhetoric about ‘Broken Britain’, and is disappointed by the cynical moralism of Roman Polanksi’s Blair-bashing film The Ghost Writer (‘plot’ spoilers). Angus Kennedy argues that laments over the defeat of science-championing former MP Evan Harris reveal a lack of belief in democracy. And in a review of Eurydice at the Young Vic, Andrew Haydon suggests British directors protest too much about serving the text.
