This week on CW, Thomas Gartrell reflects on Trevor Griffith’s account of the life of Thomas Paine, and the never-quite-realised promise of A New World, while, recalling something someone once said about tragedy and farce, Andrew Haydon reviews 2nd May 1997, Jack Thorne’s new play about the morning after New Labour’s historic UK election victory. Meanwhile, Nicky Charlish considers the consequences of New Labour’s weightless economic strategy in a review of a Civitas pamphlet calling for a new industrial policy.

And Hannah McConnell Proctor reviews a performance by Mathilde Rosier at the Serpentine, questioning the separation between culture and nature, as well as audience and performance.
