CW editorial note - 19 June 2009
A right state
A right state
This week on CW, Luke Gittos reviews Neil Stammers’ Human Rights and Social Movements, and finds it a useful corrective both to the ‘legalisation’ of human rights through the state, while doubting the author’s faith in NGOs’ ability to keep rights grounded in popular movements. Meanwhile, Ella Hickson, whose play Eight opens in London next month, considers the likely effects of the recession on her own twenty-something generation, and wonders if a test of character might do them good.
Elsewhere in theatre, Giulia Merlo reviews the Young Vic’s hotly anticipated Kursk, and Matt Trueman reviews Ontroerend Goed’s latest experimental piece in Plymouth.
