Joining battle
Joining battle
The first of this year’s Battle in Print essays have now been published on the Battle of Ideas website. The series of essays, commisioned to complement the Battle of Ideas festival, opens with Dolan Cummings on ‘Elf and Safety and Bill Durodie on West versus East.
And next week in London, as part of a series of Battle of Ideas Satellite events, CW assistant editor Sarah Boyes joins Barb Jungr, Norman Lebrecht and others in a Roundtable Rumble on X-factor: Singing in the name of quality? at the Royal College of Music, 7pm on Thursday 14 October.
Meanwhile on CW, Harry Hoare considers whether schools should explicitly teach values in a review of James Arthur’s Of Good Character. In London theatre, Matt Trueman enjoys Lovers Walk and is unnerved by On Ageing, while Simon Watt reviews Beckett in Bristol.
